Having a nightmare trying to get it to boot in to mac osx now
Before starting I made sure I’m running from the mains, I have my win7 dvd, and my mac install disk. I also watched a few videos on YouTube and tried to look on the apple support site, but couldn’t see much on apple. (why we live YouTube so much).
Just starting the install of windows 7 on my MacBook. Loaded up bootcamp from within the mac and it asked me how much I want to partition. I have chosen 10gb, but later it did recomend just over 12gb (hope it’s enough). Next I was asked if I want 84xbit or 64bit, I’ve chosen the 64bit. ??? Not sure if correct or what the difference is. I only need to run a few small programs, so sure it will be enough. I can always start again if I need to. Next screen asked me to choose the partition. I chose the bootcamp partition and had to format as NTFS before I could proceed. It wasn’t totaly clear that i had to do this, but i wasnt able to proceed before choosing format. I’m writing this as I go and it seems to be taking ages to “expand the files”. Took a good 2-3 mins before it moved from 0%.
Finally came up complete and had to restart. Only option was run from cd/dvd. (this happened a few times). Very strange it’s taking me through the setup screens again. Had to format the partition again… If this happens again I am not going to bother. I think I need to not press any key and just let it do it’s thing.
Yes that was it. Don’t press the anykey and just allow the system to restart. It will then ask for network settings and time zone, set up a name and password. Then another restart and it will ask you to login and prepare your desktop. Urgh this is taking ages.
Final restart and all done. On the Internet and downloaded and installed firefox. Needed to adjust resolution, but looks ok. Navigation on MacBook is a bit strange. I’m so used to multi touch. Lucky I will not be using it too much.
Maybe the partition should have been a little bigger, as only 938mb free. But enough for me. So looks like this install takes 9gb or just over.
Work Update
What a week. Work was a very busy week, but managed to get all done as planned. It was confirmed that the company I work for have been bought out by another company, but seems it will be a while before I know if the team I work in will be affected. It means that for now I am not buying anything unless it is something that I need to buy. Also feels like I can’t really plan a holiday for the summer. It’s so dam hard to find a job you enjoy these days and then be able to keep in the same job for long. I’m hoping that they will still need me, but time will tell.
Poker Site
After a busy week in work I was looking forward to a nice relaxing weekend, as over the next few weeks I have a few busy weekends coming up. Next weekend my brother is here and we are going to the London Affiliate Conference (LAC). Hoping for a few parties and a few drinks. Before then we are hoping to get the new poker site up and running. We have seen the PSD file mock up and is just being coded. Looks very different to the current site, but that is a good thing. We are going to use the old template for another site.
Apple Mac
I bought a MacBook pro last year and have been loving it, but have a few things that I still need to do on windows, so this afternoon I am going to try to install windows on my Mac. Urgh, just the thought of it makes me shudder. I’ve read that it should all be simple and can be removed if it goes too wrong.
Oh
Today I walked Bailey for a few hours and managed to pick up a really nice Travel Bug. Mission is to travel to Silverstone, so will have to travel a bit further in a few weeks to help on it’s way.
I’ve also been busy updating my blog with new follow and Social Networking intergration options.
An article in tonights evening standard made me pause to think. It’s about the fact that Jonathan Ross quit due to his contract not being re negotiated. They are asking would you feel unwanted.
I think that what ever organisation you work for these days they don’t really give a flying poo about their employees. All they seem to care about is themselves and the shareholders. Making so much money that they can’t actually spend it at a reasonable rate.
You only have to look at the other news article today. Where Cadbuys have sold out to Kraft. A move that will no doubt mean job losses for the hard working UK based employees. While shareholders sit there getting fatter. Even more annoying about this I that it has all been financed by RBS which is 84% owned by the British Tax payer.
At the end of the day there is very little loyalty between a company and it’s employees. While I try to always do the best job I can. I also feel that who ever I worked for I would be nothing more than a number on the payroll. So if faced with a situation it makes things rather easy to decide. A company I used to work for had very proud employees that when retired at 65 had been working there since being a teenager. Never changed company and had never seen a p45. 1 job all their life. Compared to most people today having 8jobs by the age of 30.
It’s been 10 days and Bailey (my dog) has had his second set of jabs. This means he was able to come out walking with me. We didn’t go too far, but he was really good and met Ruby (Dan and Hazel’s dog)along with a number of other dogs as we were out walking. Really please with how he behaved on the lead.
Managed to grab a few geocaches too. There is a set of 4 caches in pages wood. They were a really nice set and good for both beginner and experienced geocachers. Dubzie86 had already grabbed these before, but wanted to come as there was a travel bug that he wanted to grab.
It was very damp under foot. So if you are going to do this set, make sure you have a good set of wellies.
