End of month 1 £100 challenge

My plan in January was to play some Sit n Go’s and freeroll games where I could. On top of this I have a year long plan of a champions game that I am playing in on Nasty Duck. I also had a small stake on VC Poker and $50 on PKR. Outside of the starting stake we are free to enter as many freeroll games as we want on as many sites as we wanted to. The only rule is to not deposit more than the starting £100. We can choose to move this £100 about though if we wanted to. So Here is how I have done site by site.

VC Poker
I’ve only got a couple of £’s on here and really only intended to play low stakes poker when I wanted to de stress. However I have been busy playing in freeroll games where I can and have not had the need to de stress on here.

PKR
Again I have been busy playing on other sites and only had a little go on cash tables on here, but came off even and have not had the need or time to go back to the site. Which is a shame as PKR are now running points based tournaments similar to that of PokerStars. Maybe in the coming months I will play a bit more on here as it can be easy money and is a fun site to play on.

PokerStars
I did intend to try and rake through a bonus on here and make some easy money that way. However I have been too busy playing on other sites and have not had the chance to rake through or play the number of games that I wanted to. I played a few small MTT’s and didn’t cash and also played a few double up SnG’s (Sit n Go’s) and managed to get up to $58. Nothing massive, but I didn’t play that many. Also you really have to win 2 out of 3 double up games to actually make a profit. If you only win 50% of the double or nothing games your bank roll will reduce by the table rake.

Nasty Duck Poker
I have mainly been playing on here as there are a number of regular games that I can cash in easy enough and also there is the year long Champions game. There are 2 champions games a week at a cost of €3 a week. Now my original stake of 20€ isn’t going to last too long, as in total if I play every game I would need 156€. However Nasty Duck run the 20:00CET happy hour. Each day at this time there are a number of freeroll games and bounty games that I have been able to cash in. I’m currently up to €40 at the end of the month so a nice double up after a few cashes and wins in freeroll games on here. The only cash I have had to spend are on the champions league games. Sign up to day at www.nastyduck.co.uk and check in at 7pm UK time for the happy hour games.

32Red
Now I only have a few £’s left to deposit on a site if I need to, so I didn’t want to just throw it on to any old site. I do still have the £10 left to deposit on a site if I need to. However I have not yet had to deposit this money on any sites.
Earlier this week I was reading in Poker Player magazine how Chris Ferguson (aka Jesus) managed to turn $0 in to $10k in just 18 months. He did this by playing in freeroll games on www.fulltilt.com and then when he won a few games upping the level that he played. I decided to look round an see what freeroll games other sites offer. I was invited to a $5k freeroll NL Hold’em on 32Red. I signed up, but also signed up to a Omaha freeroll at the same time. As it happens, I totally dropped out of the NL Hold’em game, but I managed to cash £2.20 in the Omaha game out of over 5000 players. So this has helped my bankroll increase a little bit. I will be using this site similar to that of VC Poker if and when I need to. Also freeroll games are busy, but can be fun.

Sky Poker
Now I like to look around and see what other sites are out there and have a bit of fun. I was invited to a £500 freeroll game on Sky Poker and managed to cash £5. So similar to 32Red and VC Poker I will use this site to play low stakes when I need to as I don’t want to use my Nasty Duck money to play regular games and I am hoping to freeroll my way to the top of the championship game. Which I currently stand top of the league by a few points woot woot.

Overall I am up £28.10 in a month, which is not bad for a few mini games of poker. My Plan for February is to carry on with the games on Nasty duck and maybe play a few tournament games on PKR.

Week 2 Poker Progress

This week has been an up and down week really. I have been a bit under the weather and a bout of man flu, which meant that I didn’t play or feel like playing any poker. Tuesday night was my second game in the Champions Poker League, which I won to take joint top place with furnesspkr. As I have previously mentioned though, there isn’t any pay out of funds until later in the year, as the competition last all year long. So while this was a good result there are still nearly 100 games left to play.

Wednesday night I was feeling a little better and played in the bounty game on Nasty Duck Poker, I was a good chip position, but had said I would go and help a friend set up his xbox, so when I thought that they said the bubble gets €10 and it will be for 6th place, I pushed all in. Only to find out that it was 5th place that got the bubble prize… Doh.. I was not happy, but it was my own stupid fault as I wasn’t paying attention enough.
I didn’t play any poker for a few nights and wasn’t until Saturday evening that I decided to load up PokerStars and play a few Double up games to get my points up and hopefully release some of the bonus that I am due. 10% done and should get part of it released soon I hope. I’m still hovering around the same bankroll on PokerStars. In the evening I thought I’d have a look on PKR, as I have not been on for a while. I seemed to be waiting ages for Sit N Goes to start, so decided to load up $4 in the micro stakes cash tables. I went as low as $2.13 and then got it back up to $3.47 before deciding to come off and call it a night.
Sunday night was the best night. There were 2 main games on Nasty Duck, a Champions Game and also a freeroll starting an hour later. I signed up for both and set out on a good roll. I won the champions game, which has left me top of the league current prize pool is 37.31€ of which top prize receives 20% and a trophy

After the Champions league game I played in the freeroll. I had a good feeling about the freeroll, as I didn’t go out before the last add on break. I paid €0.25 to buy and extra 5000 chips and used them to their full potential. My chip stack was up and down like a yo-yo and before long I thought I was going to bust out. Hitting a few nice and lucky hands I managed to scrape in to the top 10 and was guaranteed at least 1€. I know not massive, but the idea of this blog remember is to track my progress when starting off with £100. A while longer (I seemed to be sticking round) I was creeping my way up the chip stacks and down and up. Even longer later it was down to heads up and I ran in to AK. Lucky for me the other player held AJ and re raised me all in. As I was massive chip leader I called and won the had and took down 18€ for first place.
I started off with:
Nasty Duck – 20€
PKR – $50
PokerStars – $50

Current standings
NastyDuck – €26.08
PKR – $48.13
PokerStars – $58

What a win

Ok a bit of an update on all my sites is needed and I thought I would start off by updating my blog. I don’t seem to use the blog that much as I mainly use my facebook profile to update and keep in touch with friends.

    First Live Game

Back in April I made the big move and played my first live event when I joined in the London Pub Poker Open, which was held at Loose Cannon. It was a 2500 starting stack, with the opportunity to re buy when you ran out of chips. I held AK and ran in to pocket aces, which meant a rebuy for me was needed. After re-buying I just didn’t seem able to get really involved in any pots and I was out in 93rd place out of about 170 starters.
I was a bit disappointed with my place, but went home and had a few games online. For some reason I just didn’t seem to be hitting the cards when I deeded a bit of luck. So I gave it a break for a week and played a bit of x-box and chilled out. My online play has still been very poor and unlucky. Mainly due to the number of idiots that don’t seem to appreciate when I have the wining hand, but will call an all in on a draw and end up hitting the draw card on the river.

    Second Live Game

Yesterday (24th May), I decided to go back and have another go at a live game and made my way over to the Loose Cannon poker room. This time it was 5000 deep stack start and I was determined to finish better than my mate Mark, who had also made the trip down with me.
I started off by trying to play a bit aggressive, but didn’t hit the cards I needed on the flop and was pushed off by people that seemed to hit. I then decided to tighten up my game and try and limp in where I could. This allowed me to keep my stack just below average for a few blind level increases. After the 3rd break I was very short stacked, but finally hit a few good hands and increased the size of my chip stack. I took out the bubble and I was on the final table with a decent amount of chips.
I was in the money and would have been very happy with 9th place and to get my buyin back after being so short stacked early on. But before I knew it there was only 5 of us left and I had gained a few more chips. A hand full of hands later and a fantastic bluff against the chip leader it was down to heads up and I had the chip lead. I was dealt Q7 suited and raised, only to be re raised all in. After a few moments and happy with second I decided to call this all in. James turned over his cards and held AQ un suited. The flop came down and gave me my possibility of the diamond flush. Turn card didn’t hit, but the river card gave me the flush and I had won the game ?

Bring on the next live game in a couple of weeks, but I think it will not be as easy the next time.
